A google employee did some UX research with us - and worked on this - https://github.com/dasher-project/dasher-design-guide/tree/main/ux-background its great but we have a lot of questions eg settings panels - and how these work. Bear in mind we are building on iOS, Windows, Linux and even on things like Apple Vision. We have a LOT of settings. Some work has been done to whittle this down. Before we get users testing new builds we want someone to lead our UX work with us to collect data and follow up with clients who are all around the world and help iterate the development. Its fun!

UX (re)design

InvenTree is an open-source PLM (parts libary managment) with a backend API server, a frontend based on Bootstrap/jquery /JS-based frontend and several apps. We are rewriting the frontend based on React and want to take this opportunity to create a more user-friendly, intuitive and accessible experience for everyone.

Major pain points are:

Navigation between pages
Information-dense but readable tables
Introducing users to functions, communicating restrictions and possible actions

A designer already did some groundwork and we have some great mockups (figma) available, he had to reallocate his free time. We have coders on the team so getting designs/behaviours built once they are conceptualised should not be a problem - you do not need to know how to code.

Improve the accessibility and usability of Gitea and suggest design improvements

The developers of Woodpecker have noticed that there are many ways the accessibility and usability can be improved of the tool but they need help froma. designer in getting started with how to understand the needs of users, improve some UI accessibility and generally improve the tool for users. For example: A developer said that the contrast of text and other UI in dark mode could be improved.

The team would also want the designer to improve other usability aspects of the tool and help them label and capture these in issues on their repository.

Graphic designer for OpenScore

OpenScore is a collaboration between MuseScore, IMSLP, and various other partners across the music and tech industries. The aim is to unite MuseScore’s millions of users in a crowdsource effort digitise and liberate the works of Mozart, Beethoven and other famous classical composers.

Digital sheet music provides convenient sharing, adaptation and playback across a range of devices, including computers, phones and tablets. The scores will be made available in a variety of formats, including PDF, MIDI and MusicXML, as well as accessible formats like Braille and Modified Stave Notation for blind and partially sighted musicians. The scores will be released under a Creative Commons license to remove all copyright restrictions. This will be of huge benefit to orchestras, choirs and individuals looking for materials from which to practise music. It will also facilitate a number of uses in research, academia, and education, and help to inspire composers and arrangers in producing new content.

OpenScore will be running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the transcription effort, and we will be seeking to raise its profile at a number of upcoming music and tech conferences. We are looking for a designer who is familiar with open source and Creative Commons, and who can help us to illustrate these concepts in a way the general public can understand.
