Hello and thank you for reading,

We are a south east London-based start up trying to get a website up and running as the next step in developing our project.

Our goal is to make therapy space more accessible to local therapists and in turn make therapy and better mental health support more accessible to minoritised local communities in the south-east London area.

I am writing in the hope that you might be interested in supporting our project which needs logo and branding support. We are not particularly proficient with tech and design jargon but we try our best!

We have a range of ideas that we can forward that should help a lot to shape the logo design and the design language that we can use. However there is nothing we are ‘married to’ – we are very open to people’s creativity regarding our design and very grateful for any input offered.

Our project is yet to draw any start-up money or make any income, and the work of developing is only done on a voluntary basis. We are made up of 2 people, one of whom is risking financial hardship. Because of this we are trying where ever possible to keep our costs low via the generosity and support of fellow service cooperatives and social enterprises.

We have tried to raise funds but are now waylaid by a recruitment push due to the loss of one member following bereavements.

The alternate spelling makes it unique while keeping its pronunciation and meaning intact. (Fun fact: It’s also my constellation!) My brother came up with the name.

Understanding of scalability for various uses (social media, GitHub, game assets, etc.).

The content strategy working group of The Good Docs Project is about to embark on a refresh of our website.

We are a group of technical writers and developers, and would love input from a designer.

We want to choose a new theme, and it would be good to make some pre-emptive creative decisions to make our lives easier when applying that theme. For example, we’ll need to answer questions like “Which blue? Now we need another color - what contrasts well with this blue? Is it accessible?” etc.

Our project has a main product: templates. It also has subsidiary products, one of which, the Chronologue, has its own branding (this is already established). We’ve also got a blog.

We need a primary and secondary color scheme to gives us enough flexibility to tie our products in to the one family. We’ll probably use a Hugo theme, and a theme color generator but it would be nice to get input from a designer.

Internet Freedom Nonprofit Seeks Brand Designed for User Experience Team November 2, 2021

The Tor Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization advancing human rights and freedoms by creating and deploying free and open source anonymity and privacy technologies, is seeking a Brand Designer to be a part of the User Experience Team.

As a Brand Designer, you will be responsible for the creative direction of The Tor Project’s identity wherever it is presented, ensuring our visual language is both compelling and cohesive across the organization.

Though small, the UX Team at the Tor Project is a “full stack” design team – encompassing the disciplines of graphic design, interface design, experience design, and ethical user research. Our mission is to promote the principles of human-centered design across the organization and the wider Tor community, improving our users’ experiences at each point along the way.

This is a full-time remote position. Salary is $75,000 USD/year.

Job Requirements

In this role, you will:

Establish a clear identity and brand voice, including the development of a multi-platform brand style guide to provide greater consistency going forward.
Lead the creative development of our annual Year End Campaign, alongside other major fundraising and awareness campaigns throughout the year. - Support broader content marketing efforts on social media, email, the Tor Project blog, press releases and more.
Produce and manage the Tor Project’s documentation templates, including reports, presentations, workshop and training materials, and anything else required by the team.
Create high-fidelity web designs, particularly for the websites we operate that are less technical and more brand focussed (e.g. www.torproject.org).
Collaborate extensively with and receive design critiques from the User Experience, Communications, and Fundraising teams.

Additionally, you will occasionally be expected to provide ad hoc product design support for the UX Team, including the creation of high-fidelity user interface designs and helping to maintain our web and product design systems. However, you will not be expected to undertake complex User Experience and/or Information Architecture tasks, and support from a dedicated UX Designer will always be available.

Required experience:

Experience designing primarily for digital brands. Although we do some print material, our audience and brand is online.
Ability to produce original illustrations, iconography and a good understanding of typography (on that last point, we advocate for using Free and Open Source fonts wherever possible).
Excellent proficiency with vector design tools.
High level of organization in all aspects of the design process, from producing clean vectors, to the organization of your design files, and maintaining consistency with established style guides wherever possible.
Comfortable working remotely with a global team distributed across many timezones.
Sufficient proficiency in English to be able to accurately present and receive feedback on your work.

Preferred experience (not required):

Experience collaborating with other designers in Figma, our vector design tool of choice. However should you not have experience with Figma directly – don’t worry! It should be easy for anyone used to Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, Sketch, Adobe XD or similar software to pick up.
A history of designing or advocating for the causes of free-software, open source technology, human-rights, privacy, censorship-circumvention or an interest in internet-freedom in general. Familiarity with the challenges faced by our users who are subject to surveillance and censorship. - Experience producing 3D graphics or short animations – although this is not neccessary for the role, and would simply be an added bonus.

Avogadro is a leading 3D molecular design and visualization tool, downloaded over 1 million times. As coders and scientists, we need help with icon design and UI / UX as we finish Avogadro 2.0

Our biggest need is for toolbar icons. Beyond the standard “New,” “Open,” “Save,” “Export,” etc. we’re a 3D modeling tool and chemistry set. We need to clearly illustrate in 32x32 or 64x64 icons:

Navigate (translate, rotate, spin)
Draw (freeform molecular sketch)
Template (insert molecule fragments)
Select (e.g., rubber band rectangle)
Manipulate (e.g., pull and push atoms and selections around)
Bond / Angle Manipulate (e.g., tweak lengths and angles rather than move in 3D cartesian coordinates)
Measure (e.g., click on atoms to measure distances, angles, etc.)
Animate (e.g., show a molecular movie / dynamics)
Align (e.g., set the molecule along the X / Y / Z axis)
Auto Optimize (e.g., let the computer find a low energy geometry)

In short, we share some concepts with Blender and CAD programs, but have our own set of tools and needs. Some chemistry experience is probably helpful, but not required. We’ve used our programs with high school and college students and it should be intuitive and fun to use.

Beyond icon design, we’d love some discussion about UI / UX and interaction. We want to strike a balance between “any student can use it” and “plenty of features for experts.” For example a computer graphics student contributed new “layer” features as part of Google Summer of Code and it was eye-opening. They could be used to simplify a lot of tasks – so now we’re wondering what else could improve our experience.

Simply Secure is looking to contract a visual designer who can bring their expertise in web design and crafting brand identities to a new educational website and resource repository launching in August 2021. Quite a few of us have design educations, there is a bunch of architects & different types of engineers all with a decidedly tech angle.

We’ve done some work on an OSArch logo on got a good result if you ask me. Variants of the logo are on the intro page.

Now we need to take this logo, be more specific about its use, and find out what it means for our general style.

We’ve had some general discussion before about the look and feel of our website which led to some good things. Focus then moved to the logo.

This is a not a weekend project, we’re looking for someone, or a small group of people, to help us collect our ideas and make a concrete proposal. We have opinions about design, some of us spent years in design educations, but hopefully we also have also enough humility to be guided. Like I said this is not a weekend project, it’s gonna be a process and there’s no massive hurry.

About the money - we don’t have any. But if you have an account on LiberaPay / Patreon or whatever we can work together to get some sponsorship. We support design as a paid profession, but we’re not a legal organization yet, so we can’t pay bills.

Logo/icons for Monado XR (VR/AR) Runtime

Monado is an open-source runtime, focused on implementing the Khronos OpenXR standard in a fully open-source, permissively-licensed project. The project was founded by Collabora, so in some places (e.g. Khronos slide decks) the project gets represented by a Collabora logo right now, which isn’t great since we want it to be independent.

Right now we’re using a variety of placeholders for the logo (in some places a silly photo of a dog wearing an HMD, in others a sketch proposed by one of our devs) but as we’re approaching a 1.0 “conformant” release we’d like to get something properly done.

It should stand out, look sleek/futuristic, and also not be tied to a specific tech (head-mounted displays, etc) since wide-ranging hardware support and future development is anticipated. The payment is being funded by Collabora’s marketing department, so it should be marketing-friendly and appealing, of course.

Foss responders is a community initiative that started out to support Foss organisations and projects in the face of coronavirus when events and conferences were being cancelled and Foss orgs were struggling to meet fundraising target. Foss responders started out to support those needs.

The design has currently been done by two designers (Eriol Fox and Jay Sethi) with support from others across the volunteers of Foss responder volunteers. The website is overdue a better design approach and is difficult to do with a ‘solo’ designer who often does the product management work too.

Design logo for open source PM/Issue tracking software

We’d love a beautiful logo to go with our open source project and platform.

“Pachno” is the name of our new iterated version of “the bug genie”, an open source issue tracking and project management platform. We are looking for someone to help us design a logo (without name) for it. The “pachno” name is a word play on “pachnoda”: a category of beetle (which happens to be similar to our previous logo designed in 2006) which represents the “bug” - the phrase used for issues in software. Preferred color profile is a bit “toned down” and subtle in or around the color value #0c8990, but we are open for someone with better suggestions.

The extent of involvement is up to you. We are all volunteers.

New logo (to go with major app update)

AntennaPod is a podcast manager and player for Android. Contrary to many of its competitors, it is open source (MIT License), developed and translated by volunteers, gratis and ad-free.

The app’s current main developer is currently working on AntennaPod version 2, an important update with lots of bug fixes and UI improvements. To honour this major step, we are looking for a new logo and app icon and simple colour palette. Other contribution most welcome as well. The goal of the new design is to help give AntennaPod a modern and professional look.

The AntennaPod lead developer ByteHamster & long-standing active community member Keunes will be involved in the process. Together they developed the design brief - check it out if you’re interested!

Logo design

I’m currently working on making a project of mine, Cluxia, a bit more public. At the moment it consists only of public chat services (XMPP) but it will eventually provide free email, social network, git hosting etc.

What I would want is a logo that we can use for the project, possibly alongside a color palette and font. The logo would be used on the website, but also as an avatar for the project on various services.

“Cluxia” is originally the combination of “clusia” (a tree, somewhat neutral?) with the “x” of XMPP. A current draft of what I want to publish on cluxia.eu is linked alongside this post and may help to get a picture of our target.

Brief

Mailchain enables blockchain-based email-like messaging with plain or rich text and attachment capabilities. Using blockchain protocols and decentralized storage, Mailchain delivers a simple, secure, messaging experience.

We’re looking for a new logo and color scheme to be used across the Mailchain website and application (Open Source).

It should also take the Mailchain tenets into account and be simple, clean and modern.

Existing logos can be seen on the Mailchain website (https://mailchain.xyz) (light and dark), and twitter.

Colors can be similar to what we have today, or something quite different, but should help make it easy to read and interact with the user interface. The current inbox theme uses barebones bootstrap theme colors. You can see a video walkthrough of the existing interface here.
