Open Source Design (OSD) is a community of designers and developers pushing for more open design processes and improving the user experience and interface design of open-source software.
OSD received funding to explore and evolve the governance, decision making and organizational structure of the OSS community project. We expect some open sourced documents/writing to be published, some updates/information to be documented on our Github organisations/repositories and research documents to be produced.

Organization: Open Source Design – Governance and Organization project

Status: closed

Compensation: paid

Role: Governance, documentation, user/stakeholder interviews, research, project support,

Please see this document for the full job description: https://cloud.opensourcedesign.net/s/Ly6WTWYg4Gn5aQT

We are looking for support in exploring and understanding governance broadly for Open Source Design. You can find some background details in this repo https://github.com/Erioldoesdesign/open-source-design-community-governance/blob/main/the-state-of-open-source-designs-community-and-governance.md

We’re looking for people with experience of governance processes and decision making across volunteer communities to carry out research and discussions that lead to an understanding of where OSD’s governance and decision making can be added to, changed and improved in order to build and implement a resilient, sustainable, equitable and respectful process that can ensure OSD’s community can clearly understand what and why the community focuses on, with what resources and have clear pathways to connection and contribution.

We’re asking for simple indicators of interest from people wanting to take on this work in the form of either written answers to the following questions or any other formats (audio/video) that the applicants may find more comfortable.

Question 1: Have you any public examples of helping community groups through governance and decision making process that you can share or any brief descriptions you can offer?

Question 2: Briefly (no more than 200-500 written words) describe your thoughts on approaching this work from what you’ve read in this project posting so far? What questions/challenges come up for you about the nature of this work and how do you intend to explore those?

Please don’t send an overwhelming amount of information or evidence. We want to see how you respond to these questions and not benchmark based on impressive sounding prior clients. Please keep clarifying questions to a single email thread if needed. If we have follow up questions or clarifications we’ll reach out for or additional information. Please do not request calls with any of the OSD members about this work.

Applications will be assessed based on the answers to the above questions and evidence of public example/s from question one. The OSD governance committee of 5+ people will assess these via private discussion.

Applications will close on 15th of May 2026

Candidates will receive feedback by June 15th 2026

How to Apply:

**erioldoesdesign@gmail.com** OSD Governance Advisory committee chat group (access given once a individual has been selected) The selected candidate will ‘report’ to the wider community of open source design. There are no management ‘approval’ processes where a specific member will ‘sign off’ on the work. The work will reach a state that the OSD community can continue with and meets as reasonable an amount of ‘approval’ as feasible in the current decision making processes.

https://archive.fosdem.org/2022/schedule/event/osd_introduction_to_open_source_design/

Jabber/XMPP is a standard communication protocol. It features at its core federation and extensibility. It would be nice for this to be reflected in the work.

I have in mind either various islands of mushrooms linked together somehow.
Or, some variant of the XMPP logo overrun by mycelium.

I don’t want the logo to look too realistic visually (as in, close to a photograph).

Even though I do have a grand for working on the project, I regret not to have factored this in, and this is the little I can spare with nonexistent salary otherwise.

A designer already did some groundwork and we have some great mockups (figma) available, he had to reallocate his free time. We have coders on the team so getting designs/behaviours built once they are conceptualised should not be a problem - you do not need to know how to code.

If you’re familiar with our work, you know we design, build, and ship beautiful health software for companies of all sizes, like Apple, Johnson & Johnson, NIH (National Institutes of Health), and Walgreens, to micro startups. We are hyper-concerned about guiding people through tough decisions, and produce eyebrow-raising results.

Our idealized candidate can be described in this way:

First and foremost, you need to be exceptional:
loving to design and build software, making is in your DNA, solving crazy problems with 50 different crazy solutions. You need to have a proven track record of designing healthcare software that has shipped.

Second, you need to be a system thinker and serial do’er:
to see more than just the design and production tasks but the entire product ecosystem, to having a firm grasp of engineering principles and business practices. You will need to lead not just yourself but other studio’ites and clients. Your responsibilities include leading projects and, over time, learning how to manage the entire service to designing software that is destined to ship. You will not be a cog in a machine. Your ideas will directly shape the experiences you create. Ultimately, you will be your own business unit within the studio and grappling with the holy trinity: design, technology, and business.

Third, you have to really care about Design, your fellow staff, and Spaceship Earth:
being adrenalized about healthcare, business, writing, open source, innovation, craftsmanship, fun. You are given great freedom and responsibility for managing your own work program to mentoring staff to driving company goals. Taking pride in and feeling responsible for a high degree of personal ownership in your work is critical because thousands to millions of people will immediately interact with your finished designs. We are looking for a passionate, inspiring, design-obsessed apostle who can increase our IQs (as well as dramatically increase your own).

That’s the kind of person we want. If you have those three qualities, just about anything else is negotiable.

If you have any questions about the position, please email me.

You can apply below, or send me your resume, portfolio, and phone number so we can chat.

Looking forward,

Currently, LibreLingo is using an open source Bulma template. We are looking for something more original and ambitious. We need a person who wants to take care of our design. This would involve creating design tokens, a design language and the design of basic components. The only thing that's not right is navigation bar.
I really think that it is complicated and does not feel natural. And some users report that it is hard for them to figure out how to use it.
But, I can fix this by myself.
What's required?
We need to create **simple** yet useful navigation bar, which won't take users attention from the content.
We also do not use anything except vanilla `javascript`.
We offer you to be mentioned in our `CONTRIBUTORS.md` file.

Organization: wemake.services meta

Status: expired

Compensation: gratis

Role: Web design

How to Apply:

sobolevn@wemake.services

https://github.com/wemake-services/meta

Read more on opensourcedesign.net →

Design logo for a teenager code community

CoderYouth is a new code community with a difference. We want to design a website (and branding) to help other users understand the project, install the symbols and how to contribute.

The expected outcome is a wireframe and/or design of the website.
In an open issue, contributors discussed the main points that the website as to contain:

A list of the offered symbols sets

A basic how to install them on different platforms

A screencast of how to use them

A how to contribute and current contributors.

Latest release.

Choose a representative symbol/image for each symbol set.

The list will be update in the project issue: https://github.com/Xaviju/inkscape-open-symbols/issues/57
