The ideal person for the job would be someone that is well versed with UI/UX, Branding and any design software of your own choice. Since this is not a paid position i am open to people with any type of experience, we are all together in this journey to grow.

Currently, i have two software projects that i am planning to finish this year. Let me tell you more a bout the first one that would be quicker.

The name is KeyFortress and it’s a new authentication application, with support for end to end encryption, and built in protocol for passwordess authentication, it might be a bit early for the adoption on the market, but being first is never a bad thing.

I have a working version of the application already, and i plan to release it for Windows, Linux, MacOS, IOS, and Android. So i am looking for a partner that is here for the long run, and i do hope that in the process we manage to establish something bigger together.

Currently only IOS and Android have an MVP, but probably the end of the month there will be MVPs for the 3 desktops as well.

The tech stack that i currently use for those that are interested is:

Flutter/Dart - for both the Desktop and Mobile applications HTMX,Express, Blazor for all web based consumers (Couple of example web pages so we can demonstrate how the login works) A .Net core API that all of the Web pages use to authenticate against

I am also looking for other roles, so if you want to contribute but don’t find yourself fitting these requirements, hit me up, we will figure something out.

Simply Secure is looking to contract a visual designer who can bring their expertise in web design and crafting brand identities to a new educational website and resource repository launching in August 2021. OSArch.org is all about “Creating a built environment with free software, increased transparency, and a more ethical approach. OSArch is for the architects, engineers, designers, builders, planners, operators, and you. Let’s change the industry together.”

So there are a ton of projects we are involved in which all need UX love. This job is about OSArch as an organization getting our own brand together.

Quite a few of us have design educations, there is a bunch of architects & different types of engineers all with a decidedly tech angle.

Here’s how far we are now: https://osarch.org is looking presentable https://wiki.osarch.org/ is okay but suffers from a lack of design cohesion https://community.osarch.org/ is also okay but also doesn’t connect very well with any specific style. https://learn.osarch.org/ is kind of doing it’s own thing. Again, without a Style Guide it’s hard to know where to start.

We’ve done some work on an OSArch logo on got a good result if you ask me. Variants of the logo are on the intro page.

Now we need to take this logo, be more specific about its use, and find out what it means for our general style.

We’ve had some general discussion before about the look and feel of our website which led to some good things. Focus then moved to the logo.

This is a not a weekend project, we’re looking for someone, or a small group of people, to help us collect our ideas and make a concrete proposal. We have opinions about design, some of us spent years in design educations, but hopefully we also have also enough humility to be guided. Like I said this is not a weekend project, it’s gonna be a process and there’s no massive hurry.

About the money - we don’t have any. But if you have an account on LiberaPay / Patreon or whatever we can work together to get some sponsorship. We support design as a paid profession, but we’re not a legal organization yet, so we can’t pay bills.

Fedeproxy allows to synchronize software projects hosted on one forge with their counterparts on other forges. Developers can freely use the forge of their choosing while contributing to the same project. It operates independently from the forges.

The name of the tool alludes to:

how it is implemented: via a proxy

The logo could reference an object of the forge/blacksmith semantic fields. The object could appear several times in order to carry the notion of federation/interconnection. The logo should not emphasize the “proxy” part, since it is an implementation details (meaning: how it works is less important than what it does).

Monado is an open-source runtime, focused on implementing the Khronos OpenXR standard in a fully open-source, permissively-licensed project. The project was founded by Collabora, so in some places (e.g. Khronos slide decks) the project gets represented by a Collabora logo right now, which isn’t great since we want it to be independent.

Right now we’re using a variety of placeholders for the logo (in some places a silly photo of a dog wearing an HMD, in others a sketch proposed by one of our devs) but as we’re approaching a 1.0 “conformant” release we’d like to get something properly done.

The XSF is an independent, nonprofit standards development organisation whose primary mission is to define open protocols for presence, instant messaging, and real-time communication and collaboration on top of the IETF’s Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP).

In the past, we had a hard time communicating to software developers which of our published standards (XMPP Extension Protocols, XEPs) are most relevant for their use case, as well as communicating to users which XMPP implementations provide the functionality they seek.

To improve the situation, we have created a Compliance Suite for developers to prioritize their work. The goal of this job is to create a set of badges that developers can attach to their clients and servers to make them more attractive and more discoverable to users.

The Compliance Suite consists of four categories:

Core - minimal functionality
Web - Core plus what is needed for web-based XMPP usage
IM - Core plus what is needed for Instant Messaging
Mobile - Core plus what is needed to run XMPP on mobile devices like smartphones

Each category defines Core and Advanced requirement levels for Clients and Servers.

Ideally, we need badges that depict all combinations of category and requirement levels, e.g.:

“Advanced IM 2019”
“Core Web 2019”

Optionally, it would be great to have distinct badges for Clients and Servers, and also toned-down / deprecated-looking icons for previous generations of the Compliance Suites, e.g:

“Advanced IM Server 2019”
“Core Client 2012” (for a very old spec)

There are also legitimate combinations of categories, e.g:

“Advanced Mobile IM Client 2019”

The badges should represent their relation to the XMPP protocol, e.g. by using the XMPP logo or having the text “XMPP” inside.

It might make sense to design the badges in a button-like look, so that they can be embedded in our list / table of clients.

The shields.io project provides a framework for the generation of minimal badges/shields that could be a possible foundation or inspiration for this work.

To make it possible for the XSF to take measures against abuse of the badges by incompliant implementations, the XSF would need all exploitation rights on the created artwork. The artist should be ready to assign all intellectual property rights according to the XSF IPR policy.

“Enough” is an innovative tool for journalists to communicate with their sources via encrypted technology. It has a dual mode function, which allows for communication and data transfer on two different levels of security.

On the simpler level, it provides an easy-to-use online platform for journalists to store and receive documents on a day-to-day basis. This function is comparatively easy to install, maintain and use, and significantly resembles more commonly used file-sharing systems such as Dropbox and GoogleDocs. This module not only aims at providing journalists with a practical, standardized tool, but also contributing to a change in culture towards improved protection when storing data.

On a more complex level in cases where a much higher level of security is required, journalists can activate a second layer of the tool. Based on the open source communication software SecureDrop, the use of this element is foreseen in cases where a very high level of security is required due to the nature of the information that is being provided by the source.

The name of the tool alludes to its dual function: a) It refers to the fact that in most cases, journalists and their sources do not need to rely on highly complex technical solutions to communicate safely, and that simple measures of encryption are “enough” to provide the necessary security. b) It refers to whistleblowers having “enough” of the wrongdoing they are facing, and deciding to report to journalists, while being able to rely on safe communication channels.

We are thus looking for a logo that illustrates the product, and ideally its dual function. Since we are mainly trying to appeal to mainstream journalists, the design should be smooth and simple, rather than complex. Preferred color schemes sunny yellow/white.

Dimension (an open source integrations manager for clients like Riot.im) is tackling stickers in an upcoming update and needs some stickers to be included in the launch.

Stickers in the context of Dimension or Riot.im are very similar to Telegram stickers in that they are images sent to a room/channel for everyone to see. Dimension would serve the purpose of providing those stickers so that users can easily post them to the room.

The sticker packs being designed should have an overall theme to them, such as “cats” or “science”. They do not necessarily need to be tied to emoji, but should have some sort of emotion to be associated with them.

UX/UI design help needed for a new file sharing project

Arbore is a social file-sharing application. The goal is to provide a way for people to share pictures/documents/whatever with their friends/colleagues/contacts privately and safely. The second goal is to reduce the dependency of people to the silo of data that are Facebook, Google, Dropbox ... that trap them. In short, to provide a viable alternative solution and to help people protect their private life. Alternative solution already exists but require technical knowledge and time to setup and maintain. In part because of that, they are not very successful. Arbore is my attempt to change that. I think that such a tool should be as easy to setup and use as VLC. This project is already well underway and close to a working MVP. That said, I need help from people more knowledgeable than me in UX and UI design to make it really slick and beautiful. I'm just a developer after all ! Even if the current state is not terrible, it could be much better. And on a project like this, it's the difference between success or not.

We’re running a community-driven fork of a commercial product, but we’re not affiliated with the company that maintains the commercial version. We need a logo to differentiate ourselves from the original company.

The original company is called “ForgeRock”; our group is called “Wren Security”, which is a play on “ren” for “renegade”, since our group has broken off from ForgeRock’s group.

We’d like a logo with a wren / bird theme. As our focus is security products, the logo should be bold and/or more serious than playful; we’d like it to convey a sense of strength and security. We’re open to logos that exploit well-known characteristics of wrens (the bird).

Our fork consists of a suite of products:

CaptainFact is a non-profit collaborative, real-time fact checking platform. Its goal is to help us improve the way we consume medias on the Internet by collectively sourcing and debating about the content we see.

The project currently offers two linked tools:

A real-time debate platform that allows us to have rich and focused discussions on a video by working point by point, argument by argument - instead of taking the content as a whole like almost all today’s comment systems do: demo.
A browser extension that is bringing this information directly on the content you’re watching: demo.

CaptainFact has a strong gamification aspect. We want to make it pleasant to contribute and reward users bringing positive content. Astorid uses the notmuch backend for blazingly fast searches through tons of email.
