About AutSPACEs

We are co-designing a citizen science platform with a community of autistic people. The platform will be used to gather qualitiative data about how autistic people are influence by sensory processing differences in their daily lives, with the end goal of collecting data which will inform positive changes to environments so they are more accesible and better suited to autistic people. Participatory research is core to the AutSPACEs approach, and people with lived experience of autism have been involved at every stage of the project in order to ensure that we create a citizen science platform which meets the needs and priorities of those for whom there is most at stake.

Graphic Designer/Illustrator

In response to community feedback and to improve both accessibility and experience, the project seeks to commission a series of illustrations. The illustrations should help convey the purpose of the project and platform, make its main functionalities clear and provide a welcoming feeling. These images must be clear and appeal to a diverse range of autistic people. It is important to consider accessibility requirements, and to harmonise with the existing design system.

The images will also be used in presentations about AutSPACEs, as well as in other communications, such as newsletters and Twitter posts. The candidate will deliver 5 designs and work closely with the AutSPACEs team to make sure their designs are integrated into the platform.

We are UK based and looking for an established freelancer who is already able to produce invoices (it is not a requirement to be UK based, but to be able to send invoices to UK based organisations).

Owncast is a free and open source piece of software to allow individuals and organizations to run their own live video streams, similar to Twitch or YouTube Live.

We’re looking to create an animated explainer video that’s approximately 1 minute long with animation that gives a brief overview of Owncast, what it is, and who it’s useful for.

We’re looking for a designer to create the visual identity elements of an anti-phishing tool launching in February 2021.

The project

We are looking for someone who can bring their expertise in crafting product identities to a new, global tool that helps at-risk users (human rights defenders, journalists, activists, NGOs) stay safe online. The tool is launching in February 2021.

You’ll propose, create, and deliver an identity and design system that includes:

A logo
Logotype
A brand mascot
Illustrations
Typography
Color palette
Guidelines for usage (dos and don’ts)

The identity system for this free tool is not intended to impress investors and convert customers. Instead, it will help users understand the tool and establish consistent patterns and metaphors to increase usability and trustworthiness.

Several identity guidelines are already in place, including: mission, vision, values, audience, personality.

The identity system will be implemented into a browser extension, informational website, and extension marketplaces on Chrome and Firefox.

This is a time-limited contract, from approximately November 2020 to February 2021. We are a US 501(c)3 organization that has the ability to hire in the US and Germany, and contract internationally.

We are inspired by work like:

Tunnelbear - Consistent branding with expressive and approachable metaphors
Signal - Breezy confidence and straight-talking makes the tool approachable to a mainstream audience
Tails - Strong graphical metaphor for communicating complex functionality, in a human, emotional way
Mailvelope - Meaningful logo design and integrated, clear concept.

About us

We are a small US 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, founded in 2014 with the goal of making security tools easier to use. We believed – and still do – that security doesn’t have to be confusing to end users. We’ve contributed design to a variety of tools that enhance security, such as Tails to I2P to NoScript. We’ve held salons and a residency around designing for security. But we’ve done a lot more than usable security. Just in the last year, we’ve launched a decentralization pattern library; a report on trust and transparency in nonprofit funding; a campaign to save internet freedom tech; a community around human rights centered design; a series of videos about trust and responsibility in design; and much, much more.

You love designing identity systems. You get really excited about telling a visual story of a tool that is designed to help people.
You design expressive and accessible screens, logos, and illustrations, meant to be viewed on the web
You like working independently, in collaboration with a fully remote team
You are comfortable advocating for yourself and your work to make sure that you’re getting what you need from us
Your meeting availability has sufficient overlap with our working hours of 10am to 6pm Central European Time. The project team is based in Germany.

Nice to have

Awareness of one or more of the following areas: open source software, internet freedom, tech criticism and activism, human rights
Experience in developing brands

Hi,

Thank you for visiting this job post. The Sleepe Owl project is a fully open source and fully free learning application.

We are looking for good and experienced Logo and Branding specialist. Who’s main task will be design our brand on the website, mobile application and advertisements.

Why we do this? Becase the knowledge of math, physics, languages, programming, etc… should be free. In my country, in Hungary the social education program is old and bad, with really old habits (30 years old at least). I know the situation is the same in a lot of country in the world. Nowadays, in the life we have a bunch of problems what the social education can’t resolve and to reach the necessarry knowledge you should pay a bunch of money.

So, the purpose of this project is to collect a bunch of developers, designers, editors and teachers, to make a huge collaboration for the free and perfect education.

I hope in the human goodness, because I do this project for free to have a better generation of kids and adults who can solve the problems of today and tomorrow.

I started this project on 2018/03/30. We have a GitHub organization and a simple website. The GitHub organization is https://github.com/Sleepe-Owl where you can find a repository called sleepe-owl-design where we will store our design files.

What I ask from you? Just to collaborate to this project with ideas with knowledge or with design our brand.
