Forgejo is a self-hosted platform for software development (version tracking and project management).

Dear design community, I’m looking for assistance for my role in the Forgejo user research team. Currently, I’m the only member of that team, and I publicly called for help with my roles recently, because I cannot keep up with the work on my own.

So far, my work consisted of doing user research and user testing via live interviews as well as creating surveys, to learn more about the usage of Forgejo and similar platforms. The results have been recorded in a dedicated repository. The information is then used to influence design of new features and classify feature requests based on their expected value.

The results of user research have been overall handled respectfully by the Forgejo contributors, within the human capacity the project has to turn suggestions into actual improvements.

UI design, usability testing, and data visualisation for Open Corporate Facts

Open Corporate Facts (OCF) is in early stages. There is no demo site yet.

The vision is building a website for helping journalists, members of ONG, scientists and also simple consumers, to investigate on corporations. It could be seen as the Open Food Facts of corporations.

It aims to build a big database filled with a maximum of financial data publicly disclose by corporations, in a collaborative way with all it’s user.

We are looking for a partner for this project. If you are interested, has some development skill, and motivated by the goal of the project it could really help.

The website would also provide ways to see and explore the data, and even download it.

Basic visualization would be: percentage of money spent by a corporation for its employees, for tax, to buy merchandise, to give to shareholders.

UI design and usability testing for Alerta web console

Alerta is looking for help to evaluate the usability of it’s new version and also improve interface design which is currently in beta.

The alerta tool is a monitoring system that allows systems administrators and IT engineers use just one system to monitor alerts from many other monitoring tools on a single screen.

Alerta consolidates and de-duplicate server alerts from multiple sources for quick ‘at-a-glance’ visualisation.

The web app is single page app, which is “responsive” to screen size and should work well on mobile and tablet. It is also used in “kiosk” mode which is fullscreen without any menus so only the alert list is shown.

A live demo of the beta is at https://beta.alerta.io (NB: use a dummy email address to “sign up” and login to use the demo).

The web app makes extensive use of a web component framework based called Vuetify which is a Vue.js implementation of the Material Design Spec.

OTF seeks multiple service partners to help expand its services to better support the community as well as improve knowledge sharing around specific usability challenges facing internet freedom tools. To this end OTF seeks services toward three different objectives:-

Objective 1: Provide secure usability services to internet freedom tools where there is a gap in knowledge or capacity.

Testing/re-designing InspectorWidget

InspectorWidget is an opensource suite to track and analyze users behaviors in their applications. The Collector tool logs desktop usage: screen video, mouse+keyboard events, a Document Object Model (DOM) of widgets for each application window through accessibility APIs. The Iterator tool allows to: browse these recordings; program annotations to track the states and events of widgets, windows, applications, and objects in the scene; and extract metrics for quantitative analysis of workflows.

The InspectorWidget suite is released under the terms of the GPLv3 license.

InspectorWidget is looking for:

Users and testers: usability experts, user experience and human-computer interaction researchers who undertake contextual inquiries and (quantitative) usability testing, what InspectorWidget aims at assisting.
UI/UX designers: for improving the user interface of InspectorWidget, and for helping to better communicate the benefits of InspectorWidget through a website, logos, icons.
